Merit Badge Procedure
1. Decide which Merit Badge you wish to pursue.
2. Acquire a current Merit Badge Book and review the requirements. You may:
-Purchase the Merit Badge book from the Scout Shop.
-Download the requirements and information from a web site.
-Borrow the book from another Scout.
3. Discuss with the Scoutmaster and have them sign off on a "blue card" - You must do this if you are doing a Merit Badge on your own. (if you are doing this as part of a large group/Troop sanctioned Badge you do not need to do this)
Fill out your portion of the blue card
4. Contact and meet with a Merit Badge Counselor (that is approved for that badge - if we do not have a counselor, ask Dan King or Greg Harter and we will arrange a counselor for you) to review the requirements and how they are to be fulfilled.
A list of Merit Badge Counselors is on file with the troop and is available on this web page in the secure pages.
5. Once you have fulfilled all requirements, the counselor will sign the Blue Card in the appropriate places.
6. The Merit Badge Counselor will notify the Scoutmaster that the scout has successfully fulfilled the requirements and request the Scoutmaster's signature on the "Applicant's Record" section of the Blue Card.
7. After the Blue Card is completely filled out and has all appropriate signatures, it is given to the Advancement Chair (Kathy Calhoun).
8. The Scout will again be recognized and presented with his Merit Badge at the next Troop Court of Honor.
Notes:
-This procedure will be different for Merit Badge University and Summer Camp.
-The Blue Card is the Scout's "proof of completion" record. While a scout is working on a merit badge, the blue cards are kept by our Advancement Chair. Troop 55 keeps the blue cards on file after they are completed.
